After serving Central Washington & the Pacific Northwest for over 70 years the Evans Family has retired from the excavation business.  Started in 1952 by Jess Evans the company operated continiously for over 70 years and spanned three generations.  What started as a "land leveling" company progressed into a full service excavation company doing leveling, underground utilities, road construction, homesites, complete subdivisions, commercial, industrial and agricultural sites.  We would like to thank all of our subcontractors, suppliers, the friends we made, people that we got to meet and most of all the individuals that had the faith to let us be a part of their dreams.

After graduation from Columbus Kansas High School Jess H. Evans worked as a wheat farmer and ran a trucking business until 1939.  At that time he entered the construction trade as a heavy equipment operator.  He followed work to Hanford, Washington in 1943 during World War II and after the war ended he worked at a hop ranch until the spring of 1947 when he returned to construction.

In 1952 he formed his own company Jess H. Evans Land Leveling in the Yakima Valley doing mostly agricultural leveling for riel irrigation in Central Washington.  The business was based at Jess's home located in the West Valley area of Yakima.  Jim, Jess's son joined the business in 1955 and the business started to expand.  The scope of work expanded to include agricultural ponds and water storage systems, county and private roads.  This lead to an expansion in the variety of equipment and the fleet grew.  From cats and cans to scrapers and graders.  The old wooden single car garage was replaced with a moderate sized brick shop with a wash bay.  Out back, a six stall parking shed was added so the growth continued.

The 1980's brought more changes as Jerry and Jamie, Jim's sons joined the company and Jess decided that it was time to travel and enjoy life.  After 30 years operating the company he retired.  The company name was revised to Evans & Son, Inc. to reflect the makeup of the new crew and business continued.   In the early 1990's purchase and construction of the present day facility was started.  Projects have included Yakima City Parks, Yakima County Roads, numerous subdivisions, large lagoons and ponds of all sorts, large commercial sites and a variety of projects completed on the Yakima Training Center facility.

After the passing of several family members and over 70 years in business, Evans & Son, Inc. made the difficult choice to close their excavaion business and retire.
